Posted: Updated:

The No.1 team in West Virginia Class A, Wheeling Central, pulled away from a feisty Caldwell bunch for a 34-13 victory at Wheeling Island Stadium.

Wheeling Central senior running back Gino Bianconi had another big game, running for 136 yards and three touchdowns. Classmate Eric Gompers added two scores on runs of 36 and 39 yards.

Wheeling Central held a 12-6 halftime advantage.

The Maroon Knights improve to 8-0 on the season. They take on Bishop Donahue next Saturday night, and wrap up the regular season by hosting Linsly (8-0) in two weeks.

The Maroon Knights could possibly spend the next six weeks on home turf if they win out, and capture another Class A state championship.
