7News is first on scene as authorities investigate a double homicide early Sunday morning after receiving a 911 call of shots being fired within the Cambridge, Ohio area.

The Guernsey County Sheriff's Office responded to 2 Coventry Drive, Apartment C where they found a white man in the front yard dead.

According to authorities a second individual, a black male, was found laying in yard behind the same apartment near a telephone pole. The black man suffered multiple wounds but was alive when deputies arrived.

The man was transported to Southeast Regional Medical Center where he later died.

Deputies said the Critical Incident team and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation processed the crime scene.

7News spoke with authorities who reported of the four apartments in the housing complex, three are occupied. Police have vacated all apartments in the complex and tell residents they may return once the scene has been processed.

Police said the area is a generally nice neighborhood and that this situation is not a usual occurrence.

The renter of the apartment at the location of the homicide, Nijier Thomas has been found at her home in Zanesville, Ohio and is safe according to deputies. Authorities said they plan on questioning her for information.

Both bodies will be taken to the Stark County Coroner's Office for autopsies. The identities of the two men have not been released.
