Governor Romney will be at Century Mines on Tuesday to speak to thousands of coal miners and their families.
Local politicians will be speaking as well, including Josh Mandel for Senate, and Ohio Senator Rob Portman will introduce Governor Romney. Romney is scheduled to speak for half an hour, then plans to spend an hour talking with coal miners and their families.
7News spoke to Founder and CEO of Murray Energy Corporation, Bob Murray today. He says it becomes less about politics when the lives of his employees depend on this election.
"It's a human issue to me; this election," he says. "I know the names of every one of our employees, and some of their wives. Their lives are being destroyed by the policies of Barack Obama and his radical followers. It doesn't make any difference whether you're a democrat or a republican. The democrats I know in the Ohio Valley are for jobs and so are the republicans."
The largest employer in the Ohio Valley says the survival of the region depends on voting President Obama out of office.
"I'm struggling to keep jobs here," Murray says. "I know what I'm saying. In West Virginia alone there are 1,300 coal miners laid off. I laid off 239 last week. This is real."
Employees have been pre-registered for Tuesday's event and will be bussed to the location. Murray tells 7news that access to the mine will be shut off, but he encourages residents to welcome Governor Romney along State Routes 148 and 145 between Powhatan Point and the mine entrance.
