Marcellus Shale Forum Brings Opportunities to the Ohio Valley

The Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce held a forum today called "Benefiting From the Boom: Your Business and Shale."

"All Ohioans are benefiting from the increased supply of affordable and efficient energy supplies. Literally they are saving billions in natural gas cost especially when its compared to crude oil and even across the united states, crude oil prices are discounted 15-20 dollars when compared to world prices," says Tom Stewart, Executive Vice President of Ohio Oil and Gas Association.

This special forum was open to any businesses interested in finding out how they fit into the Marcellus Shale equation. Hundreds of people attended from restaurants all the way to transportation and everything in between.

In Steubenville drilling is kicking into high gear.

"I think the future is bright. I think one of the things people need to understand is that this is a world wide phenomenon and it's being lead right here from our area, so that's really an important part of the process. We get called all the time from all over the world about what is going on with shale development and this is the area basically the epicenter for shale development that people are focused on," says Jim Ladlee of Penn State University Marcellus Center of Research.

Jobs as well as businesses are seeing a boom.

Ladlee said that for every well brought into production, it takes 420 individuals to bring that well into production. General laborers, truck drivers, heavy equipment operators, geologists and engineers are all in demand.

"Just because of direct jobs related to oil and gas it alls there, but because of affordable and reliable energy supply its coming into this industrialized area you're going to see a rejuvenation in industrial activity especially in steel industry or in the oil and gas industry," says Stewart.

Hotel restaurants wholesale trade RV and leasing company's are all immediately effected.
