Trial Date Set for Steubenville Teens Charged with Rape

Posted: Updated:

A trial date has been set for the two Steubenville teens charged with rape.

Hamilton County Judge Thomas Lipps set the trial date for two months from now starting February 13th.

Judge Lipps and the attorneys met behind closed doors before starting the pre-trial.

Defense Attorney Walter Madison filed a motion to have the two defendants tried separately. But co-defense attorney Adam Nemann believes that will slow the trial process down.

"We think it makes sense as a matter of judicial economy to try the cases together however we do understand the co-defense attorneys reasons for filing such a motion but those reasons do not affect our defendant," says Nemann.

Judge Lipps said he will not make a decision about whether they will be tried together until the prosecution sends him statements.

Until then the two juveniles will remain under prior orders by remaining under home confinement and attending the court alternative school.
