U.S. Senator Joe Manchin is speaking out about his legislative priorities for the 113th Congress. He says he wants the nation to put its fiscal house in order, keep its promises to senior citizens, veterans and children, achieve energy independence and address mass violence.
Manchin said he's confident that Washington can overcome partisan politics to address the major challenges facing the country. He also stated he wants the U.S. to pull out of Afghanistan.
"Stopping the war in Afghanistan. It's time to come home and rebuild America. You can't continue to force your will on a country that doesn't want to change," Manchin said. "They've proven that, not just over hundreds of years but thousands of years. And I'm saying that we're going to be fighting terror wherever it may be in the world. We don't need to get hunkered down and try to rebuild their country. Come home and rebuild America."
Manchin recently wrote to President Obama, urging him to reduce the U.S. troop strength in Afghanistan. He said the U.S. needs to draw down forces as quickly as possible, while maintaining the safety of the troops.
