Weirton museum offers ‘African-American Archeology in WV'

Posted: Updated:

African-American archeology in West Virginia will be the lecture topic at noon Feb. 2 in the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center.

The presentation will provide an overview of archaeological work conducted at African-American sites in West Virginia and the Ohio Valley. It will include a discussion of clues found in material culture such as the types and quality of pottery made and used types of food available and handmade jewelry, all of which show strong ties to African traditions.

Heather Cline, the lead curator at the Grave Creek Archaeological Complex in Moundsville, will be the guest speaker.
