Identity of Wheeling Island Fire Victim Confirmed

The identity of the victim killed in the fire at 42 Kentucky Street has been confirmed as being Mildred Kilgore, 65.

The cause of the fire was electrical in nature, according to the Wheeling Fire Department.




Wheeling Fire Chief Larry Helms says he suspects the victim of the fire is a 65-year-old woman who lived at the home. Her name has not been released.

Wheeling Fire Chief Larry Helms has confirmed one person is dead after a house fire on Wheeling Island.  He told 7News, "Basically the structure, when we arrived, was fully involved.  There was a report that someone was still inside.  We can now confirm that in our secondary search, we did find a fatality.  No identification on that person as of yet.  As far as that goes, the investigation's still going."

The fire broke out at 42 Kentucky Street.  Authorities believe the victim to be the owner of the home.
