Hancock County Bank Robbery Suspects Arrested

Posted: Updated:

With the help of local citizens and Sheriff Departments across three states, the two suspects wanted for robbing the Hancock County Savings Bank are now behind bars.

Russell Culbreth and Neredia Jade Marie Ferrer have been arrested in Fayetteville, North Carolina in connection with another bank robbery. Culbreth confessed to three separate bank robberies, the first one being at the Hancock County Savings Bank.

New Cumberland Police Department Detective Matt Harvey and Lt.. Jeremy Krzys received word that a bank in Virginia had been robbed by a man with the description that fit Culbreth's.

Soon after, suspicious activity at a hotel room in North Carolina led officials to arrest Culbreth and Ferrer. Hancock County Sheriff Ralph Fletcher could not be more proud of the job done by his department.

"I'm extremely proud of the officers. They did a wonderful job. They worked hard. They put in long hours; a lot of overtime. They coordinated it between themselves but they also coordinated it between other departments. So they reached out. They talked to the people of this community and that's where we started with our leads and how we got this accomplished," says Sheriff Fletcher.
Culbreth is currently in the Cumberland County jail in North Carolina under $25,000 bond. Ferrer must go before a judge in North Carolina before she can be extradited to West Virginia. Right now, Sheriff Fletcher says it's up to prosecutors.
"Next step is to go forward with the prosecution. Jim Davis, our prosecutor, will be coordinating with the us attorneys office, Mr. Ihlenfeld, out of Wheeling, see if we can do something jointly that way. So right now it's in the hands of the prosecutors," says Sheriff Fletcher.
Sheriff Fletcher believes that this string of robberies was drug related. He hopes that this case goes into the hands of the federal government.
