If you cast your ballot on Election Day, there’s a strong chance are you did it in a school or other public building. Schools and churches in the Mountain State are the most common locations for setting up polling places. And it’s been that way for a long time.

A West Virginia native has officially been introduced to the Senate committee that will oversee her nomination process to head the U.S. Office of Management and Budget.

Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., officially introduced Sylvia Mathews Burwell to the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, which began nomination hearings April 9. In March, President Barack Obama tapped Burwell, a Hinton native, to head the OMB.

Rockefeller touted Burwell's experience with President Bill Clinton's budget in the 1990s and her service at both the Treasury Department and OMB, where she served as deputy director.

"As we are debating the best course for our country's economic future, we need smart, strong leadership at our federal budget office," Rockefeller told the committee. "Sylvia Mathews Burwell is absolutely the person for this job. I urge this committee to swiftly consider and confirm her as the director of the Office of Management and Budget."

In addition to her time with OMB, Burwell served as staff director for the National Economic Council during the Clinton administration, chief of staff to Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin and deputy chief of staff to the president. But despite that experience and a Harvard education, Rockefeller said he believes Burwell is true to her roots.

"Sylvia is a true business and economics expert," Rockefeller said. "But she is not someone who looks at those issues in a vacuum. She understands deeply the impact they have at home in West Virginia and on the people and places like ours across the country."
