The Wheeling Park baseball team defeated the Brooke Bruins by the score of 7-6 on Wednesday night on an Eric Banks two-out, RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Brooke jumped out to an early 4-0 lead, but the Bruins helped the Patriots rally with several costly errors. Trevor Stewart drove in two runs as part of a four-run, fourth inning to give the Patriots a 6-5 lead. But Brooke's Russell Schwertzfeger tripled with two outs and came home on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth.
Mike McLeod's Patriots are now 15-1.
Meantime, the Wheeling Park softball time had a much easier time with St.Clairsville, posting an 8-0 victory in 5 innings at Lisa's Field at the 1-470 Complex. Leadoff hitter Marissa Tucker tripled in three run in the fifth inning.
