The family of former Congressman Charlie Wilson received friends and the public Saturday afternoon at the Bridgeport School District Auditorium. Congressman Wilson passed away Sunday following complications from a stroke suffered in February in Florida.
Mourners remembered Charlie's legacy. Gallia County Democratic Chairperson, Carole Roush, says, "Charlie was more than an elected official to us. He was a friend we loved him."
Former Martins Ferry Mayor, Phil Wallace, remembers Congressman Wilson fondly saying, "Charlie was a wonderful person. He was kind, friendly, and loved everybody. I don't think he had an enemy in the world."
Saturday's evening visitation lasts until 8 p.m. A vigil service will be held a Bridgeport School District Auditorium Sunday at 4 p.m. And will be followed by visitation until 8 p.m.
Friends are then invited to attend a visitation at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church followed by a Liturgy with Mass at 10:00 a.m.
The family asks that contributions be made in memory of Charlie to the Congressman Charlie Wilson Leadership Program at Ohio University Eastern. Contributions can be sent to:
