A former West Virginia sheriff who admitted to
violating the rights of a bank robbery suspect after a 2010 car chase is
being sentenced Monday in Wheeling.
Sheriff Robert Shirley pleaded guilty in January to violating the civil
rights of Mark Daniel Haines when he beat him after a high-speed chase.
Haines is also expected to testify
during Shirley's hearing. Shirley faces up to 10 years in prison and a
find of $250,000.
