Three Injured in Head-On Crash in Belmont County; One Man Air-Lifted to Hospital
BELMONT COUNTY -
One man is undergoing surgery at an area hospital after his motorcycle collided with a pick-up truck in Belmont County on Monday.
The accident happened about 4 p.m. on Somerton Highway. The Ohio State Highway Patrol says a pick-up truck carrying a small trailer took a turn too fast and crossed into the left lane, hitting a motorcycle head on. The motorcycle ricocheted off the truck, sending the driver flying into the air, authorities say. They say the trailer became free of the truck and landed on top of the guard rail, while the truck rolled several times before landing in the upright position next to the guard rail.
The driver of the motorcycle, 64-year-old Jeffery Gallaher of Woodsfield, was air-lifted to Ruby Memorial Hospital but was then diverted to Ohio Valley Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. The driver of the pick-up, 33-year-old Jared Byall of Orrville, Ohio suffered a head and back injury and a 14-year-old juvenile, also in the truck, suffered a head injury. Both were transported to OVMC.
Authorities say Gallaher is in serious, but stable condition. Once he finishes surgery and undergoes a CT-scan, they say the plan is to transport Gallaher to Ruby Memorial in Morgantown.
