West Virginia PSC to Hear Power Plant Purchase Arguments
The Public Service Commission in West Virginia will meet Tuesday to begin hearing Appalachian Power's request to purchase a coal plant.
Ohio-based American Electric Power wants to transfer its Mitchell facility near Moundsville to Appalachian Power, a Charleston subsidiary.
AEP wants to transfer their John Amos plant near St. Albans to Appalachian Power as well.
Appalachian Power and other parties to the case will present evidence to the Commission Tuesday through Thursday in the proposed $1 billion transaction.
West Virginia Citizen Action Group and other groups intervened and are asking the agency to block the sale. They argue is not in the best interest of Appalachian Power ratepayers and that the utility company did not adequately evaluate alternatives.
