If you cast your ballot on Election Day, there’s a strong chance are you did it in a school or other public building. Schools and churches in the Mountain State are the most common locations for setting up polling places. And it’s been that way for a long time.

CHARLESTON, WV (AP) — A West Virginia special commission is seeking public comment on roadway needs and funding options, but some lawmakers believe the process is skewed to support tax increases.

Delegate Michael Folk attended the first of nine public hearings held by Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin's Blue Ribbon Highway Commission. The hearings feature findings so far from the panel's nearly yearlong study of road conditions, needs and future funding options. They also seek input through a suggestion box and detailed survey that attendees can take while there.

A freshman Berkeley County Republican, Folk believes the survey's wording assumes the need for tax or fee increases.

Tomblin spokeswoman Amy Shuler Goodwin said the hearings are bringing stakeholders and the public together to share ideas.

The commission and its survey are also online at http://www.wvbrc.com .
