    The West Virginia Child Advocacy Network and West Virginia Coalition Against Domestic Violence are getting help from Verizon's HopeLine program to help those affected by domestic violence and child abuse.

Nominations are being accepted for the seventh annual Spirit of Philanthropy Awards, given by the West Virginia Grantmakers at its annual conference.

"Since 2007, these awards celebrate individuals and programs that strive to make a positive impact through philanthropy in their communities," WV Grantmakers President and CEP, Paul Daugherty, said in a news release. "We welcome the public to recognize those that advance philanthropy in communities locally and across the state by nominating someone or a program today."

WV Grantmakers is the state's network of philanthropy that serves staff, volunteers and trustees of West Virginia's community, private, family and corporate foundations, giving programs and philanthropists. It was founded in 1993 and is one of 34 regional associations throughout the country.

The awards consist of three main types: the Critical Impact Award, the Volunteer Leadership Award and the Staff Leadership Award.

The Critical Impact Award is the celebrate both large and small grant projects that have changed lives and communities with strategic initiative, innovation and sustainability. The 2012 Crticial Impact honoree was the Women's Giving Circle of the Community Foundation for the Ohio Valley.

The Volunteer Leadership Award is for an individual who has exhibited an extraordinary commitment to philanthropy in West Virginia. The 2012 honoree was Richard Jarrell of Beckley.

The Staff Leadership Award is for an individual staff member who has an extraordinary commitment to philanthropy in West Virginia. The 2012 honoree was Sr. Jane Harrington of the Sisters of St. Joseph Charitable Fund.

Awards will be formally presented Oct. 3 at the West Virginia Grantmakers Annual Conference in Wheeling, and nominations will be accepted through Aug. 15.
