Danville Town Manager Josh Barker was appointed to the House of Delegates July 31.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin appointed Barker to fill the vacancy in the 22nd House District that was created when former Delegate Josh Stowers resigned.

"I've known Josh his entire life, and am pleased to appoint such an advocate for the people to the House of Delegates," Tomblin said in a news release. "His experience managing the town of Danville, along with his keen understanding of important issues affecting working men and women and coal mining region will guide him in this new capacity."

Barker has been Danville town manager for the past five years, and he also has worked for the West Virginia Division of Highways. He is a member of the West Virginia Municipal Leagues' Board of Directors for Town Managers, and he also has served as an assistant high school football coach at his alma mater, Chapmanville High School.

Barker attended Marshall University, according to Tomblin's news release, and he received a certificate in oil and gas well management from Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.

Barker is married to Jill Lambert Barker, who is the vice principal at Chapmanville High School, and the couple has one daughter.
