PRINCETON (AP) — Students in Mercer County will again have the opportunity to eat free school breakfast and lunch thanks participation in a federal program.
The new program will be available in all Mercer County schools and any student who wishes to eat breakfast and lunch is entitled to a free meal.
Officials say that unlike an older process, families don't have to submit applications for the free meals in the new program.
The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports that Mercer County Schools expects to feed more than 9,000 students each day in its 26 schools this year.
Throughout the state, 38 of 52 eligible county school systems have decided to participate in the program. About 332 schools will participate reaching nearly 110,000 public school students.
