UPDATE: Former Softball Coach Charged With Possession of Child Porn Seeks Bond Reduction

Posted: Updated:

The former girls softball coach charged with four counts of possession of child pornography was back in court on Tuesday, Aug. 28, seeking a bond reduction.

James Sepik's attorney Robert Gaudio filed a motion for bond reduction but the judge denied that motion and his bond is still set at $500,000. No date has not been set for his preliminary hearing.

Former girls softball coach, James Sepik, of Jefferson County, was arrested Tuesday on charges of four counts of possession of child pornography.

The charges stem from an investigation that was launched after a parent found a thumb drive at the Follansbee softball fields. The drive, which allegedly contained hundreds of images of child pornography, was handed over to the Brooke County Sheriff's department who enlisted the help of Sgt. Adams of the West Virginia State Police, Wellsburg, barracks.

Sgt. Adams identified the flash drive as belonging to Sepik. He served a search warrant at Sepik's home on July 3 with the help of the Jefferson County Sheriff's department. Police say enough evidence was gathered to charge Sepik.

He was arrested Tuesday at the Wheeling-Ohio County Airport where he works. According to Rusty Escue, the airport's interim manager, Sepik works for a FAA subcontractor in the control tower.  Additional county officials stressed Sepik is not an Ohio County employee.

Adams says none of the girls Sepik coached were in any of the images recovered. Adams says nothing happened between Sepik and the girls he coached, who were mostly between the ages of 13 and 16. Sepik is no longer coaching.

Sepik is being held on $500,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is expected within the next 10 days.
