Over 100 golden retriever parents and their pups took Oglebay by storm Sunday afternoon. The 26th annual Golden Gathering marked another year of success for the event, which grows a little each year.
The free event allowed owners of golden retrievers to bring their dogs together to enjoy each other's company. Judy Johnson with Golden Endings said the event is meant for fun, but it also has a good purpose.
"The proceeds are going to go to Golden Endings golden retriever rescue, because we're non-profit and we take in golden's that people don't want from shelters, dogs that have been abandoned, so 100 percent of the money goes back to the dogs," Johnson said.
While the event is free each year, many generous donations are given to Golden Endings to continue their work.
There was food for the humans, and owners were encouraged to bring a dish to share. Of course, there was plenty of water for the dogs.
They also had t-shirts and raffles to help raise money for the organization.
