Wheeling Central held off a second-half charge from cross-town rivals Linsly and hung on for a 26-21 victory at Wheeling Island Stadium on Saturday night.
Senior running back C.J. Burch threw a touchdown pass to freshman John Burkhalter on a half-back-pass, and ran for another in the win. Senior quarterback Parker Henry also ran for a score, and threw a touchdown pass to senior Joey John.
The Cadets trailed 20-0 at the half, but junior running back Chimechi Oparanozie scored three second-half touchdowns, piling up 138 yards on the ground.
The Maroon Knights bounced back from a humbling loss to Madonna last week to improve to 3-1 on the season. It's Wheeling Central's second straight win over Linsly.
The Cadets (2-2) have dropped two straight since winning the first two games of the season.
Meantime in Steubenville, the Central Crusaders improved to 4-0 on the season with a 42-3 win over the Toronto Red Knights.
The Crusaders scored the game's final 42 points.
In other games from the OVAC, Fort Frye defeated Conotton Valley 51-14 to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Bishop Donahue got back into the win column by beating St.Johns Central 26-6, and Bellaire knocked off Edison 26-12.
