State Fire Marshal: Fire at Old Salem International University Dorms Believed to be Intentional

The fire that destroyed the "C" building of the Arch Moore Dorm at Salem International University in Harrison County on Sept. 30 is believed to have been intentionally set, according to the State Fire Marshal's Office.

The fire marshal's office said utilities in the building have been off for several years and said that the building was currently being used for storage.

The fire is believed to be intentionally set in the center first floor apartment, according to the fire marshal's office.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the Arson Hotline at 1-800-233-3473.


Fire crews across Harrison County responded to a fire at the Arch Moore Dormitory at Salem International University, also known as "The Cubes," early Monday morning.

According to the Salem Volunteer Fire Department, the vacant building was fully engulfed when crews arrived on scene.

There is no word on cause, but Salem firefighters said the cause does not appear suspicious. However, standard protocol requires the department to alert the State Fire Marshal since it happened at a school.

No one was injured in the fire.  

Shinnston VFD, Nutter Fort VFD, Stonewood VFD and the Harrison County Sheriff's Department all responded.

Old dormitory buildings at Salem International University have caught fire early Monday morning, according to Harrison County 911 officials.

Fire was reported in the buildings known as "The Cubes" around 2:45 a.m. on New York Avenue in Salem.
