On October 9, badly decomposed remains were found near a trail in Haywood.
The Harrison County Sheriff's Department said those remains have been sent to Charleston for further investigation.
It said the remains have not been identified, but that it has a subject in mind that it may be.
Dental records will be compared in Charleston to possibly identify the remains.
The Harrison County Sheriff's Department is investigating after decomposed human remains were discovered in Haywood on Wednesday.
Residents said neighborhood kids were walking along a four-wheeler trail when they discovered the remains a short distance off the trail.
Deputies at the scene said the body was too badly decomposed to make any identification.
The body will be taken to Charleston, where a medical examiner will try to identify it through dental records.
Neighbors use the path occasionally and said they never noticed anything unusual.
