University of Charleston Physician Assistant Program celebrates its first year of classes
The University of Charleston Physician Assistant Program will celebrate its first year of classes and showcase the new facilities during an open house in Riggleman Hall's Rotunda from 5:30-7 p.m. Nov. 14.
Members of the Charleston community will tour the UC PA Program's simulation clinic rooms and classrooms, as well as interact with the modern simulation patient manikins.
UC's first cohort of 28 PA students began classes in January of 2013. The inaugural class consists of students from 13 states, including Wisconsin, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, California, Florida and Minnesota. PA is one of the fastest-growing medical occupations in the United States. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, PA jobs are expected to increase 30 percent from 2010 to 2018. Full-time PAs make an average of $86,410 per year.
