Webster County first responders rescued a man and a woman from Sugar Creek after their ATV was swept away around 11 p.m. Tuesday.
The Diana Volunteer Fire Department, Webster Springs Fire Department Swift Water Rescue Team, and EMS responded to the 1500 block of Sugar Creek Road near Diana after hearing a report that a man and a woman were attempting to cross Sugar Creek when their ATV was swept away by the water. The man attempted to get out of the water but the woman was swept approximately 1/4 mile downstream, said Bennie Cogar, Webster Springs Fire Department Safety Officer.
The woman was trapped on a fallen tree on the opposite side of the river beneath a rock cliff, said Cogar. The Webster Springs Swift Water Rescue Team was able to get swimmers in the water to reach the woman. Team members used a high line and lift system to safely bring the woman to shore. She was transported to Webster County Memorial Hospital to be treated for hypothermia.
