No.14 Magnolia's magical playoff run came to an end today, losing 21-14 to No.7 Greenbrier West in the Class A semifinals.
Magnolia senior running back Drew Keller went out by setting new school records. Keller carried the ball 38 times for 169 yards and two touchdowns. He ends his career as the school's all-time leading rusher with 3,370 yards, and his touchdown total (37) is now a new school record, passing his brother Jason (36).
Greenbrier West quarterback Malik Boatwright run for a 66-yard touchdown, and threw a pair of touchdown passes. His 18-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter was the game-winner, and set up by a pass interference call on a 4th and 10 play.
Greenbrier West (12-1) will be playing for its first state football championship in Wheeling at next weekend's Super 6 championships at Wheeling Island Stadium. The Cavaliers will take on No.1 Madonna (13-0) next Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Blue Eagle season ends at 8-5.
Greenbrier West lost its only state championship game appearance in 1991, a 31-22 loss to Spencer, in the AA final in Charleston.
