Local Girl Who Won National Contest Now Raising Money for Those Who Didn't Win

Posted: Updated:

Olivia Ault, an Ohio Valley girl who suffers from visual impairment that causes a miscommunication between what she sees and what her brain processes, won a Lily LightAide Backpacking program to help. But now, her family is raising money for the other families who didn't get so lucky.

Through the power of social media, the word spread about Olivia competing in a national contest to win a Lily LightAide. That's when the community came together and after over 14,000 votes, Olivia was officially announced as the winner. But now, they're trying to help those five other families who weren't as fortunate as Olivia to get one of their very own.

So this week, Edison Local School District is putting on a spirit week in which each student that participates is asked to donate $1, and that money will then go to raising money for a Lily LightAide for the five other families and any extra money will go to charities such as Abigail's Angels.
