Man Turned Away From Relative's St. Clairsville Apartment Allegedly Returns and Breaks In
ST. CLAIRSVILLE -
A Wheeling man has been charged with burglary after allegedly breaking into his grandmother's apartment which he had just been turned away from.
David Kerns Jr., 18, allegedly contacted his grandmother on Wednesday at an apartment complex on Breezy Hill Road in St. Clairsville, near the Ohio Valley Mall, and asked her if he could stay with them. She refused.
According to police, Kerns then waited until his grandmother left and forced himself through a small window. He then allegedly rummaged through a desk, stole cash, and walked to the Ohio Valley Mall to spend it.
He was caught at the mall and brought to the sheriff's office where he reportedly admitted he took the money and was arrested for burglary.
Kerns is charged with burglary and his bond was set at $15,000.
