It might have stretched their stomachs, but it showed how big their hearts really were.
Five 'David's' took on 'Goliath' Wednesday at the Wheeling Island Hotel Casino and Racetrack, the Goliath burger that is.
Tipping the scales at 5 pounds, including 12 patties, and all the toppings plus a pound and a half of fries and a whole large pickle, the Goliath could seem like quite the opponent but 5 men including our Mike Anthony took on the Goliath burger today in hopes of winning money for their favorite charities.
"We thought this was a way to do something great, have a little fun, you know we're going through a long winter, going to do something fun for the people," said Osi Imomoh, President and General Manager at Wheeling Island Hotel Casino.
If someone finished their burger their charity would receive $1000, who ever ate the most would receive $500 and all the contestants received at least $200.
Various charities were represented including the Easter Seals, St. John's Home and the YMCA which will put the winnings to good use.
"We never turn anybody away with inability to pay, we have several programs for children and we're always scholarshipping children in," said Chambers YMCA Program Director Adam Shinsky. "We'll make good use for it."
Ohio County Commission Tim McCormick came in second place by only .06 pounds. McCormick says that's about one extra bite of pickle.
"Osi called them vegetables and I don't eat vegetables," said McCormick. "It was all in fun for great causes, everyone had their own charities to work for. The food was actually very, very good, there was just way too much of this."
In end 98.7 WOVK's Steve Crow out-ate them all and took home $500 for the Marshall County Relay for Life. Crow credited his slow and steady approach and his TV habits to the win.
"I watch all these cooking shows on television and you think to yourself, I can do this," said Crow. "I couldn't do it but I did well enough. A lot of money was raised for some very worthy charities. "
The Goliath Burger is available at the Wheeling Island Hotel Casino and Racetrack food court until February 28th and anyone who eats the whole thing wins $40 Free Play at the casino, a T-shirt, and their photo on the wall of champions.
