Williams Lea, Leading Economic Source for the Ohio Valley

As businesses struggle and many shut down, one business in Wheeling continues to grow substantially.

Williams Lea opened in Wheeling in 2005 and moved into the Stone Center, the former Stone and Thomas Department Store in 2007. They continue to add more employees each year.

The company has 245 employees in Wheeling, all from the Ohio Valley. By the end of the year, they'll have 300. They say they succeed because of what they offer the client.

"What I think is a very compelling opportunity for our clients to save a lot of money by allowing us to re-engineer their back office functions," said vice president and general manager John Snowdon.

The bulk of their clients are law firms, but they also handle work for pharmaceutical companies, investment banks and blue chip companies.

They do legal word processing, legal proof-reading, secretarial and administrative support, accounts payable and accounts receivable. Their clients are all over the nation and the world.
They say the Ohio Valley has an excellent talent pool to draw from.

"So we look for people that have a very strong work ethic, that have a good attitude, that have a very client-focused approach and we are very willing to invest in the training to get those people to where they need to be to service the clients," Snowdon said.

Snowdon says they're always looking for employees, holding job fairs, recruitment days at colleges and listening to the suggestions their own employees.

"High quality group of individuals that we work with here on a regular basis and from that, I have a lot of individuals who are employed who do utilize our employee referral program," said national recruiter Ashley Johnson. "They come to me. They want their friends and family to apply with us to get jobs."

Their entry level rate of pay is $28,000 a year, with a high ceiling for promotion, with managers and supervisors earning close to $40,000. They say Williams Lea is recognized as the biggest business process out-sourcer in the United States and beyond.
