Concerned Morgantown Citizens March to Protest Mountain Top Removal

Posted: Updated:

Concerned citizens in Morgantown marched down High Street Wednesday to express their concerns about what they see as the danger of extractive mining practices and celebrate "I love mountains day."

The walk finished at the Monongalia County Court House to protest the destruction of mountain top removal in the region.

Walkers continued to Black Bear Burritos to celebrate the mountains by listening to activists talk about the subject. The walkers also donated money to benefit the current water crisis going on in the state.

Kentuckians for the Commonwealth, a grassroots environmental group in Kentucky, developed the "I love mountains day" event to protest and share information about mountaintop removal in Appalachia and to acknowledge a need for a more diverse, sustainable, and thriving economy in the mountains.
