Westwood Middle School Robotics Team Heads to First Tech Challenge

Posted: Updated:

The Westwood Middle School robotics team will head to the national First Tech Challenge.

Westwood Robotics Alliance FTC team is in it's first year and already beating out the competition.

The team is made up of dedicated middle school students.

Their robot will need to complete multiple tasks at the competition to win.

"We're currently four teams, lego teams, we're adding new FTC teams next year, Martinsburg High School is coming on board with a team, a new team in Fairmont. We're interested in spreading FTC and giving these educational opportunities to all kids in West Virginia," said team coach, Gerold Baker.

Team mates agree that for the robotics team to be successful, commitment is very important.

"The main thing is, we have a lot of commitment and you have to be really committed to the team and the robot of course. I mean robotics is difficult, you have to plan it all out, and build it, and program it. It's just a big process," said Lian Dunlevy, Lead Programmer.

The team will head to the competition in Iowa the first week of April.
