UPDATE: Former Bethany College Employee Accused of Embezzlement Will Serve 2-20 Years in Prison

Shelly Lough, the Brooke County woman who embezzled more than $1 million from Bethany College, will serve a total of 2-20 years in prison.

On Tuesday, Lough was sentenced to 1-10 years on two counts; one of embezzlement and one county of falsifying accounts. The sentences will be served consecutively.

In two months, a modification hearing will be held in case the judge in the case wants to change the sentence.

The Brooke County woman who embezzled more than $1 million from Bethany College will be sentenced Tuesday afternoon in a Brooke County courtroom.

Shelly Lough will find out how much time she'll spend behind bars at 2 p.m. Lough pleaded guilty to embezzling the money from Bethany College while working as a clerk in the school's cash office.

She was responsible for distributing cash to employees and students. Lough claims she was blackmailed and that's where the money was going.  

She faces up to 20 years in prison.
