Wheeling Park Student to Take Part in National Poetry Contest

One local high school student will soon be representing his school on a national stage.

Wheeling Park High School senior Austin Gage will compete in the Poetry Out Loud; National Recitation Contest in Washington D.C. later this month. Gage recently won the state-level competition in Charleston to advance to the national contest. He received $200 for the win and secured another $500 for the school. That money will be used to purchase poetry books for the school.

On Monday, representatives from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History presented Gage with his trophy for winning the state competition. He is now in the running for a $20,000 on the national stage.
