Company Won't Be Cited for Marshall County Pipeline Blast

Posted: Updated:
Marshall County - Williams Energy will not be cited by state environmental regulators for a natural gas pipeline explosion in Marshall County on April 5 of this year that caused several homes to be evacuated.
The explosion and resulting fire burned trees over a 2-acre area near Moundsville. Six homes were evacuated as a precaution at the request of Williams, and shelters were set up in Glen Dale and Cameron. Crews from Limestone, Moundsville, Cameron, Fork Ridge, Sherrard, Mt. Olivet, and Washington Lands all responded. The Marshall County Tanker Task Force was also activated.

A Department of Environmental Protection spokesperson said that the agency didn't find any evidence of groundwater contamination at the site, and said the rupture most likely occurred at a weld point in the 12-inch pipeline.
