Rescheduled Wheeling Jesuit Earth Day Celebration Set for Thursday
The Appalachian Institute will be on the Wheeling Jesuit University campus on Thursday working to expand the organic garden behind Sara Tracy Hall. This project was scheduled for Earth Day on April 19, but was postponed due to rain.
Wheeling Jesuit employees, students and the community are welcome to help get the WJU campus garden ready for the season. The garden, located behind Sara Tracy Hall was able to produce over 800 pounds of fruits and vegetables in 2013. The produce was used in WJU’s cafeteria to provide organic vegetables to students and employees.
This year, the Appalachian Institute hopes to expand the garden and donate the additional produce to local soup kitchens and charities. In addition to helping haul soil into the new beds, those participating can learn about composting initiatives and cold weather bed installation.
