Brooke County Man Murdered, Person of Interest in Custody
The Brooke County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the murder of a Tent Church Road resident who was found by police during a welfare check.
In a press release issued on Thursday, police report that on April 22, deputies were called to the residence to check on Patrick Thomas, 56. Upon arriving at the residence, deputies received no response and entered the home.
Once inside, deputies discovered Thomas’ body. Evidence found at the scene indicated that foul play was involved.
Thomas’ body was taken to the West Virginia State Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston for autopsy, and the Brooke County Sheriff’s Office continues to interview persons in the matter, as Thomas’ death remains the subject of an ongoing investigation.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by members of the West Virginia State Police and the Hancock Brooke Weirton Drug and Violent Crime Task Force.
In a related matter, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Brooke County Sheriff’s Office in the service of a felony warrant for probation violation. Bruce David Reinhardt, 22, of Weirton, was arrested in the area of Holbert’s Road in Hancock County on a warrant out of Brooke County. Reinhardt reportedly refused to come out of a home on Holbert’s Road, and was subsequently removed from the home and arrested by members of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team.
Brooke County authorities were initially wishing to interview Reinhardt in connection with the Thomas death. During the Thomas investigation, it was discovered Reinhardt was a probation violator and a warrant was obtained for his arrest. Reinhardt is currently in the Northern Regional Jail awaiting arraignment.
