Justin Clifford has been named the OVAC Coach of the Year for 2013.
Clifford, who is no longer the head coach, led the Harrison Central baseball team on a magical run last spring advancing to the Ohio Division II Final Four, where they fell to Jonathan Alder in the state semifinals. Along the way, Clifford collected the school's first-ever district championship and OVAC championship. They finished the best season in school history at 23-8.
Clifford coached just two seasons, and is now the dean of students at Harrison Central. He is the son of longtime St.Clairsville basketball coach Kim Clifford, who was a finalist for the award following the 2012 season.
Clifford beat out Madonna football coach Doug Taylor, Wheeling Central basketball coach Mel Stephens, Wheeling Park golf coach Don Headley, and now deceased Michael Denniston, Cambridge tennis coach, for the honor.
