$1.6 Million Invested as Local Bakery Expands to Serve Three States
A million-dollar investment is being made in Hancock County now that a local bakery is expanding its operations.
A 5-acre piece of land in Weirton will soon be the home of a bakery that is looking to expand its operations so that they will be able distribute their products to three states. With a purchase price of $20,000 an acre, Barney's Bakery will be operating out of a nearly 12,000-square-foot plant, a brand new facility with everything on one floor. The paperwork is in and George Barney is ready to sign it and send it back to the West Virginia Economic Development Authority. It will finalize his $1.6 million investment.
Barney said, "We are at the point at a current building where we just cant produce at an efficient rate." Barney has been meeting with BDC Director Pat Ford for the past 9 months, looking for the perfect location to expand his business. He decided on the 5.5 acre parcel at the industrial park off of Three Springs Drive. Ford said, "This is a great location and this is great news and its also really nice to see the community and the state to rally around a local business to grow here to continue to employ the people here and also add additional jobs."
The bakery will have between 25 and 35 total employees. Ford said Barney's Bakery is looking to begin breaking ground within the next 3-4 months and be in operation by late 2014 early 2015.
