Sherrard Middle School Teacher One of Six Finalists Nationwide for $25,000 Award
One local teacher is one of only six other teachers nationwide that has been named a finalist for a $25,000 award.
Cynthia Burke, of Sherrard Middle School, is up for the 2014 "Fishman Prize for Superlative Classroom Practice," a $25,000 award that spotlights excellence in teaching and the practices of the nation's most effective educators. Burke, a 7-9th grade math teacher, has 38 years of experience at Sherrard Middle.
Burke has received numerous awards, including the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Mathematics Teaching and the Marshall County Schools Teacher of the Year, an astonishing three times.
