Wheeling Park, Magnolia Softball Seasons End in State Tournament
The Wheeling Park Patriots and Magnolia Blue Eagles saw their seasons end this morning in the state tournament in Vienna.
In Class 3A, the Lady Patriots lost 2-0 against eventual state champion Lincoln County in the early game, and fell 6-1 against Musselman in the state semifinals.
Morgan Karnell delivered the Patrtiots' lone run with and RBI single in the sixth inning. Wheeling Park finished the season with a 19-8 record. It was also the final game for longtime head coach Dee Davis and assistant coach Donnie Newland, who announced they were resigning at the end of the season.
Magnolia was blanked by eventual state champion Buffalo 6-0 in the early game, and lost 1-0 to Moorefield, despite a no-hitter from senior ace Mallory Chapman, who struck out 12.
The Blue Eagles, under first-year head coach Dylan Mangino, finished the season with an 18-16 record.
