Several area vendors sprung into action at St. Michael's Parish parking lot on National Road, offering buyers fresh, organic, health and locally grown produce.
The market closed about noon.
Those who missed the market need not worry, the farmer's market will take place every Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon through October at the St. Michael's Parish parking lot. A second farmer's market in Wheeling begins on July 2 in the Ben Franklin parking lot.
ORIGINAL STORY: A sure sign of summer springs into action this weekend in Wheeling as the Wheeling Farmer's Market opens for the first time.
On Saturday morning, you can buy fresh fruits, vegetables, and baked goods at the St. Michael Parish parking lot on National Road in Wheeling.
Many residents said it's the personal attention that keeps people coming back. Organizer Milt Gutman said, "It's a social experience. They just don't grab the food and leave. They come and they'll ask you about the bread, the potatoes, or the produce that you have; and they go on to the next booth. They develop relationships with the vendors over the course of the summer."
