Benwood Council to Hear Ballot Mixup Challenge

Posted: Updated:
BENWOOD, W.Va. (AP) - Benwood's City Council has scheduled a June 9 hearing on an election contest by a councilman whose name was left off the ballot.
Curtis Mele was unopposed in his bid for a third term in the May 13 election. Due to a clerical error, another councilman was listed as the candidate in his district.
Mele filed a contest of the election results with the city last week.
City Solicitor Eric Gordon tells The Intelligencer and Wheeling News-Register ( ) that the council must decide whether a problem occurred during the election. If the council determines there was a problem, it must decide what remedy is warranted.
The council's next regular meeting is set for June 10. Information from: The Intelligencer,
