Laughlin Chapel Summer Program in Full Swing

Posted: Updated:
.A program is helping Ohio County kids this summer stay active and continuing their education.

Kids from kindergarten through 8th grade arrived Monday for the first day of a 7-week 'Summer Jam' at Laughlin Memorial Chapel and the kids couldn't be more excited about being at summer camp.

But it's not just the kids who love this camp. Camp leader Shay Mayfield believes very strongly in continuing the program that she grew up in. "I love the message and I love what Chapel does so, it always kept me inspired. So of course when I got grown, and able to work, this is the first place I ran," Mayfield said.

Every couple days, the kids get to go on a local field trip.

"We'll be at Oglebay Park, Wheeling Park, all over the valley. They're going to Washington Pennsylvania to the Wild Things Game, and we're going to Ohio to a few museums and we're going to a farm that actually has farm animals... and they have a bee center and the kids will actually get to touch and hold the animals," Mayfield said.

The summer the camp is completely full, but they are accepting applications for the waiting list. If you're interested, you can call the Laughlin Memorial Chapel at (304) 232-2630.
