The Wheeling Park High School football coaching staff has started using its three weeks of allotted days in June to teach its schemes and techniques to its players before two-a-days start in August.
Head coach Chris Daughterly likes this time of the summer to get prepared for August.
The Patriots will need to replace record-setting quarterback Zach Phillips and receiver Eric Banks. But they have plenty of firepower left from last year's 11-2 team, which advanced to the Class AAA semifinals.
Senior tight end, defensive end Chalmer Moffett (Harvard) is one of three Patriots with college offers. Senior linebacker/fullback Theo Blackston has several offers from Mountain East Conference schools (Charleston, Wesleyan, Shepherd) and junior running back Savion Johnson has an offer from Akron. Johnson became the first running back in school history to run for over 1,000 yards as a sophomore last season.
The Patriots open the season against Allderdice (Pa.) on Friday, August 29 at Wheeling Island Stadium at 7 p.m. Allderdice and Carrick (Pa.) are new to the schedule this season, replacing Keyser and Elkins.
