A leak was reported at the Dupont plant in Belle, WV, on Tuesday evening. According to the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, a chemical called sulphur trioxide was leaked as a gas or vapor from a release valve.
The WVDEP said three pounds or less of the chemical was released in the nitrogen unit of their dymethil sulphate unit at the Dupont Plant.
The leak was reported to WVDEP and Dupont's hazmat unit was on site.
There was no threat to the public according to the WVDEP. No injuries were reported and operations at the plant were uninterrupted.
