Beach Bums Hold Off Wild Things

Posted: Updated:
Traverse City Beach Bums second baseman Rob Benedict delivered the game-winning run in the top of the ninth as Washington fell to the visitors 3-2 in a close contest Wednesday at CONSOL Energy Park.  Washington’s Al Yevoli got the loss, while Traverse City’s right-handed hurler Will Rankin walked away with the win.

Wild Things right fielder inched one homer closer to regaining his league leading stats in home runs as he drilled his ninth and tenth homers of the season, both solo shots, to put the home team in front by two. Ijames finished his two homer night going 2-3 with two RBI’s and two runs scored in the losing effort. Ijames also tied teammate C.J. Beatty for second place in Frontier League home runs.

But, a pair of solo shots delivered by middle infielders Josh Miller and Benedict in the top half of the sixth tied the game at two.

Benedict struck yet again in the top of the ninth with a go-ahead double to lead Traverse City to the win.

The Wild Things and Beach Bums will play in the rubber match of the series for the Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. at
CONSOL Energy Park.
