Jefferson County Health Department Holds Child Seat Safety Check
A child's safety is of the utmost importance while driving around, so one local health department is making sure that everyone knows the proper way to secure a child's car seat.
The Jefferson County Health Department is holding a child seat safety check Saturday until 2:00 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Department where anyone is welcome to stop by to see if their seat is installed correctly. If they need a seat, the health department is providing one free of charge.
"We want to make sure all the kids in Jefferson County are safe and we want to reduce the child fatality rate in Jefferson County which occurs when the child seat is installed improperly," said Child Passenger Safety Technician Annette Stewart.
Stewart says she's been doing this for about 10 years and about 99 percent of the car seats she sees are installed improperly.
The health department is available all year round for information on child car seat safety.
