Brooke County Sheriff's Department Welcomes First Female Deputy

A new deputy is joining the Brooke County Sheriff's Department, and has set a new milestone for local law enforcement.

The Brooke County Sheriff's Department has been doing an 18 person job with only 14 deputies for quite some time, but on Tuesday, they welcomed two new deputies, one of which was their first female deputy.

Kristen Richmond and Patrick Graham were sworn in, and Richmond said she always knew she wanted to be in law enforcement, but just in the last couple of years figured out she wanted to be a police officer.

Sheriff Chuck Jackson says both Richmond and Graham will leave for the academy on September 2 for 3 months.

Jackson now has 15 deputies, plus himself, and he hopes to hire another deputy in the next year.
